Emily Keller, Ph.D.Emily Keller, PhD, is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist working with children and families at Southeast Institute for Group and Family Therapy in Chapel Hill, NC.

“A child’s world is fresh and new and beautiful, full of wonder and excitement. It is our misfortune that for most of us that clear-eyed vision, that true instinct for what is beautiful and awe-inspiring, is dimmed and even lost before we reach adulthood. If I had influence with the good fairy who is supposed to preside over the christening of all children, I should ask that her gift to each child in the world be a sense of wonder so indestructible that it would last throughout life … .”
Rachel Carson, The Sense of Wonder

I work with clients who have lost their sense of wonder in all that is beautiful within them and out in the world. Without this, they feel disconnected from hope and meaning in life. Many feel anxious and depressed. They wonder if they will ever do or be enough. Despite the negative thoughts and feelings that circulate throughout their days, however, they keep going. They feel they are stuck in a rut and don’t know how to break out of it, but they want more. I help people overcome recent and past transitions and trauma by accessing their power and autonomy, I help them get back in touch with their sense of wonder … and possibility. I specialize in emotional wellness and regulation. By tuning into emotions and intuition, people get in touch with what it is they are wanting and needing. With support, they heal, live in the moment, and take action to move forward. They feel connected to who they truly are, connected to others, and connected to a sense of purpose.

I offer family counseling, couples counseling, individual counseling, play therapy, and group therapy.

Play Therapy
I offer play therapy in Chapel Hill to children as young as 4 years old. Play therapy helps children access the wonder within them and out in the world. Through play, children work through issues causing emotional and behavioral disturbances. The disturbances subside and they return to healthy growth and development. I also offer filial play therapy to children and their parents. This therapy nurtures the attachment and security between children and parents.
