Play is an important part of a balanced and healthy life for children, adults, couples and families. It both promotes and is a sign of healthy attachment and bonding. This workshop offers a growth-focused cycling model of development across the lifespan, which integrates neurological, attachment, and relational needs for each stage. The presenter integrates these models through a Transactional Analysis and Gestalt Therapy lens. The presenter will discuss various types of play and Play Therapy and how they promote health at all ages and stages. Participants will receive information about targeting play therapy interventions to meet appropriate developmental needs based on models of individual, couples, and family development. Also, participants will explore the role of play in their own lives through a series of experiential exercises.

 

LEVEL: Beginner & Intermediate
Learning Objectives Participants will be able to:

  • Describe how play evolves across the lifespan
  • Describe the role of seperation and individuation in the parent-child bond and in couples development.
  • Explain how couples benefit from play therapy
  • List three play therapy interventions for families
  • Describe how play therapy promotes healthy development throughout life
