Play Therapy Emotional LiteracyThis workshop on play therapy emotional literacy skills integrates Play Therapy theory, neurological research, Attachment Theory, and Developmental Theory in a unique exploration of the emotional landscapes of children’s inner and outer worlds. The presenter will discuss how emotions are expressed collectively in families and in societies. Participants will learn play therapy emotional literacy skills to promote emotional regulation in children and between children and their parents.

Gender and cultural issues will be discussed.

Gain confidence and competence in helping families name and explore emotions during intense family therapy sessions. Explore the power of naming feelings. Help families learn play therapy emotional regulation skills to calm their inner experiences. Learn to help families use feelings as springboards to taking the action they need to tend to their wants and needs. Learn more about Dr. Keller and her work to help families start “feeling together.” 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES – BY THE END OF THE SEMINAR, PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ABLE TO:


• List four basic feeling words to use in play therapy
• Describe how a right brain to right brain connection between parent and child facilitates emotional regulation
• Explain how play therapy invites right brain experience and connections
• Use playful techniques to name and communicate emotions
• Describe three play therapy techniques for increasing emotional literacy and/or regulation
• Explain how the play therapy relationship promotes emotional regulation in children and in their families
