Energy Healing in Psychotherapy — Chapel Hill
Over the past two decades there has been a proliferation of emotional-somatic therapy methods based on Chinese acupuncture and Eastern Indian healing traditions. These techniques appear to be remarkably rapid and effective in treating emotional disturbance and the effects of trauma.
Workshop participants will learn how to apply several of these methods, including modern and ancient calming and balancing methods as well as problem resolution procedures for use in their clinical practice.
In this program, the power therapy method Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) will be compared and contrasted to energy psychotherapy methods including Emotional Freedom Techniques, Tapas Acupressure Techniques, Thought Field Therapy and Energy Diagnostic and Treatment Methods. All of these treatment methods have in common 1) focusing on (attuning to) a disturbing problem, issue or event and 2) applying a prescribed set of dual attention procedures to resolve the disturbance or imbalance. (Most energy psychotherapy methods employ tapping, touching, massaging, or holding certain treatment points; EMDR uses bilateral stimulations with eye movement, sound or tapping.)
Participants will learn about the history and published research of these methods. They will experience and practice applied kinesiology muscle testing of self and others. Participants will learn several energy-based psychotherapy processes and understand how to integrate them into their clinical practices.
Completion of this program qualifies health care professionals for entry into the EDxTM Practitioner Certification Program. Recommended reading: Energy psychology in psychotherapy (2002), Fred P. Gallo, Ph.D., editor.
